2011 Nissan Juke Review Specs and Price
The juke styling comes from nissan's european design center, which worked together with the Japanese home studio. Apparently, the North American design center wasn’t involved in the process. And so we can imagine that Nissan’s U.S. team was a little worried about what our market will make of it. They’re predicting modest sales – it should sell somewhere around as many units as the Cube – which hints that perhaps Nissan’s U.S. folks are as skeptical as we are.

Then again, we very much appreciate that they’ve given us the opportunity to drive pre-production Juke mules on the roads around Los Angeles. And after driving the Juke, we’re pretty sure we know why they did: Its appearance is polarizing, but it’s unequivocally a great little car to drive.

Verdict: sparky new style on a supermini base. Rides well and drives even better, so where’s the harm?

THE RIVALS
Fiat Sedici from £11,843
Italian-badged version of the Suzuki SX4 available in two- and four-wheel drive with a Suzuki 1.6 petrol engine or a Fiat 2.0 diesel. Pretty little five-door body with sprightly performance and reasonable ride and handling.
Suzuki Grand Vitara from 14,900
More of a proper off-roader, but with cheeky urban appeal. Getting a bit long in the tooth, but the petrol version is inexpensive summer beach fun with surprising off-road ability when the world turns white.
Toyota Urban Cruiser from £15,115
Pointless styling exercise based around the Yaris driveline with street-tough looks. Too high for dog-lovers, too sad for serious urban cowboys, proof that Toyota needs better marketing, and now.
